Three Dreamliners to be based in Calgary
WestJet today announced their new Boeing 787 Dreamliner routes this morning at a press conference in Calgary.
The carrier will be basing their first three Dreamliner’s out of Calgary and operating them on the following non-stop routes next summer:
- Calgary – London (Gatwick)
- Calgary – Paris
- Calgary – Dublin
This marks quite a significant day not only for WestJet, but also for Alberta with the airline becoming the first carrier to form a Dreamliner base in Calgary, and for the consumer with new non-stop flights on a premium wide-body aircraft.
The first of 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners ordered by WestJet will arrive in Calgary early in 2019, with two more arriving by April. The aircraft will operate on domestic flights for crew training and regulatory compliance before the first scheduled international flight in April. WestJet also has options for an additional 10 aircraft to arrive between 2020 and 2024. Hub locations and routes for the remaining seven aircraft have not yet been announced.
